WHAT IS THE WALL OF 100 MAKERS?

The Wall of 100 Makers is a physical art installation mirroring the city of Detroit.

The Wall of 100 Makers is representing Detroit’s makers from American Indian, African, Arab, Armenian and Latino American communities, among others.  The presenters vary from world-renowned artists and craftspeople to local builders and designers giving the viewer a visual window into the distinct cultures, ethnicities and neighborhoods of Detroit.

Materials range from wood, metal, pottery, textile, neon lighting, 3D printing, sound, sculpture, photography, poetry, bamboo and even a 'live' piece.

The Wall of 100 Makers is designed to mimic the industrial factories of Detroit. Following the measurements of most factory windows, makers represent their craft in 13¨ x 18¨ pieces. The final result is 100 windows into the city of Detroit.

The Wall of 100 Makers is interactive and mobile for viewers to engage with the material and craft of each maker. A maker is defined as any person who can create / build / make things.

WHAT IS OUR GOAL?

Our goal is to support, accentuate, and elevate the distinct cultures, ethnicities and neighborhoods in Detroit. The Wall of 100 Makers seeks to attract community centric creators interested in gaining exposure and exploring collaboration in new and radical way.

The Wall of 100 Makers premiers at Detroit Startup week powered by Chase Bank on May 23rd and will be exhibited throughout the week at The Masonic Temple.

The Wall of 100 Makers is exploring different partnerships to increase exposure and expand the installation around the city of Detroit.
