Eugene Strobe

Eugene Strobe has been involved in the local music & art scene for several years. He is one of the main organizers for the annual Hamtramck Music Festival (HMF) which attracts thousands of patrons and enlists hundreds of musical acts and dozens of venues during the first weekend of March each year. Strobe has booked music events in the past, some of which helped in efforts to aid Hurricane Katrina school children (2005), as well as the relief efforts during the tsunami in the Philippines (2004). His main artistic focus is his psych-pop band Cosmic Light Shapes. He has played in as well as written for bands such as The Witches and The Sights. Eugene has also played in, made records, & toured with rock bands such as: the Alphabet, Gore Gore Girls, the Sirens, the Dirtbombs, John Sinclair, the Pizazz, as well as many others. He was also Music Director and taught lessons at a local rock school chain for two years, & he currently works as a music instructor teaching guitar, ukulele, bass, and drums, both privately and in group settings. Strobe was an art studio facilitator at the Detroit Institute of Arts for a number of years and has curated art shows and art installations in the past. He is founder of the ‘Experimental Music School Of Detroit’ (E.M.S.O.D.), is a member and co-founder of various bicycle clubs such as the Hamtramck Lizard Gang, and Defying the Law Bicycle Club Gang, started the Jefferson East Pink Pingrees Futbol Club in the DCFL community soccer league, and conducts other community music happenings under the ‘Practice Amp!’ moniker. Strobe has a Bachelors Degree in Public Relations and Media Arts from Wayne State University, and an Associates Degree in Automotive and Architectural Design from MCC.
