Pamela Lewis

Pamela Lewis was named director of the New Economy Initiative (NEI) in January 2016. Before that, she had served as a senior program officer at NEI since 2010. She is responsible for helping to build a network of high technology commercialization and business acceleration services throughout southeast Michigan, with a special emphasis on evaluation and impact reporting. Before joining NEI, Lewis served as a consultant to the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, where she was responsible for developing asset maps and overseeing data reporting for Kauffman-funded programs in Detroit. An engineer by training, Lewis has over 20 years of experience as a process improvement and program management professional.

The New Economy Initiative, a special project of the Community Foundation for Southeast
Michigan, is a philanthropy-led regional economic development initiative working to build a
network of support for entrepreneurs and small businesses. The mission of NEI is to create an inclusive, innovative regional culture by reawakening and leveraging Detroit’s creative
entrepreneurial drive. The overarching goal is to establish a more diverse economy where
opportunity, wealth and prosperity are available for all. Since 2009, NEI has awarded over $96 million in grants to entrepreneurial support organizations and initiatives, while exposing more than 174,000 individuals to entrepreneurial services and helping to create more than 1,656 new companies and 17,290 new jobs in southeast Michigan.
