Brian Jones grew up on Detroit’s eastside. As a youth, he displayed athletic prowess in track and football, but potential scholarships were cut short by a run in with the law. At 18 years old Brian was sentenced to 20 to 40 years for armed robbery, assault with attempt to murder, and felony firearm. While serving 18 ½ years, Brian decided to turn his life around. He took correspondence paralegal courses and obtained a paralegal diploma from Blackstone Career Institute. He studied critical thinking, effective communications skills, and became a certified mediator. For over 7 years while incarcerated, Brian mentored young men age 17 to 25. During this time, he facilitated classes centered on the same skills he learned. Classes included critical thinking, applied critical thinking, the six pillars of character, men concerned with youth family and friends, conflict resolution, and effective communication skills. After his release, Brian continued to pour these same skills into at risk youth, and other young men. He continues this work today as an instructor for L.U.C.K. Inc teaching conflict resolution to at-risk youth at Goodwill Industries. He is also a fulltime college student at Oakland Community College pursuing a Paralegal degree. His 4.0 gpa recently caused the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society to ask him to become a member. Brian is also an entrepreneur that recently started a T-Shirt company called Colbi Dennett Clothing, LLC, and T-Shirt line called “To Haters With Love.”
